The subject of human rights is becoming increasingly important. It is becoming obvious that the understanding of human rights needs to adapt to the new societal conditions as they emerge with globalisation. One of the most important points is to go beyond an institutionalised approach and look for an understanding of human rights in respect to jurisprudence. As much as philosophy is frequently considered to be the science of all sciences, human rights issues are dealing with core issues of jurisprudence, and at the very least bringing issues of legality and justice in close connection. As such, they provide a foundation and framework for the issues of law, and they define how issues are approached in other fields of law. At the core of it, we find an understanding of justice as a matter of appropriateness, permanently to be defined.

The series publishes works from three strands:
• HR-questions in stricto sensu
• Legal questions that are important for developing an understanding of HR as it relates to peoples’ everyday lives
• Questions of HR, considering their meaning in a world that is different from what it had been when the universal declaration had been presented
• Legal perspectives from countries and social strata that are prone to HR breaches

What makes this series special is the orientation on gathering contributions from different countries and continents and from different disciplines.
