Abstract

Nitrogenases (nitrases) are enzymatic complexes belonging to the group of metalloenzymes, found in archaea and bacteria – aerobic and anaerobic, autotrophs, heterotrophs and cyanobacteria. They require the presence of magnesium ions, less often vanadium. They are not found in any eukaryotic organisms.
