Abstract

Beta-galactosidase is an enzyme that commonly occurs in the human organism. It is taking part in the digestion of lactose, which may sometimes cause disorders of this process. New research points to the involvement of beta-gal in the cell aging processes. There are many methods of beta-gal activity detection, one of which is fluorescent. As the biomarker, it has been used for ovarian carcinoma cells detection. It also takes part in colorectal tumor imaging. Therefore, in the future it may apply for diagnosis. The application of this enzyme has also been found in the food industry, especially to crack bonding in complex sugars.

Keywords: beta-galactosidase, emzymes, biochemistry
