Prema K.S. Rao, Ph.D (Speech and Hearing) served as a professor of language pathology at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Manasagangothri, Mysore, Karnataka, India until October 2017. Her major area of work focuses on language acquisition and disorders, literacy acquisition and disorders, bilingualism and biliteracy, in addition to exploring the relationship among cognition, language and literacy. She held several key positions during her service period as head of Tele-Center for Persons with Communication Disorders; Department of Speech-Language Sciences; Special Education; Material Development; Prevention of Communication Disorders. She has also served as chairperson at the Learning Disability Clinic and Language Science Lab. She is a recipient of the prestigious WHO Fellowship, Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship, Dr. N. Rathna Oration Award, Best AIISHian Award, and best paper awards at national conferences. She has published several research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals, chapters in books, and mentored a number of students for post-doctoral, doctoral and master’s dissertations and theses. She is a reviewer for scientific articles and project reports. Currently, she is a freelancer consulting field-based projects on child development and literacy.
