This study analyses the implications of sustainable development in the green economy concept. This analysis departs from the assumption that achieving sustainable development rests entirely on getting the green economy concept right. The method employed is based on analytical and descriptive instruments of the existing literature to derive some concluding reflections. The analysis concludes that the sustainable development processes lead to the green economy concept as the strategic target in planning development and as a tool to transform the mainstream economic development into a more environmental sustainability development through the achievement of sustainable development goals and overcome the economic efficiency and growth, social equity, and inclusiveness, as well as the ecosystem challenges.
