Ventilation systems use the dry and cold properties of exterior air to refresh the atmosphere inside a wide range of buildings, namely residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural. In agricultural buildings, the livestock densities are relatively high and excretions are often accumulated on the floor before being removed. Therefore, fresh air ventilation is critical in removing excess heat, moisture and gases such as CO2 and NH3. For several livestock type, and especially young animals, this fresh cold air must be heated during the winter, imposing the use of important quantities of fossil fuels especially in the form of natural gas or propane. This book discusses issues of air stratification and building air tightness, resulting in some major energy losses. (Imprint: Nova)
