Therefore, the focus of this edition is to provide students, teachers, and practicing colleagues with a comprehensive and evidence-based resource for esthetic restorations and its related disciplines. In this edition, the patient is examined to detect any caries, and the possible pulp treatments are evaluated and the carious posterior teeth and occlusal abrasions treated. Moreover, the principles and applications of glass ionomer and various types of light cure equipment are explained. Although the techniques, materials, and treatment options continue to evolve, an understanding of these principles and the ability to apply them are critical to providing the outstanding esthetic dental treatment expected by patients. The primary purpose of this book is to improve the clinical practice of general dentists carrying out restorative and esthetic treatments. It is, in effect, a summary of the author’s own experience, studies, and therapeutic findings, intended as a topic-by-topic reference guide for use by other dentists seeking to provide the best treatment for their patients]]> Conservative Treatment of Pulp Tissue: Indications, Materials and Techniques https://novapublishers.com/shop/conservative-treatment-of-pulp-tissue-indications-materials-and-techniques/ Sun, 28 Aug 2022 14:30:47 +0000 https://novapublishers.com/?post_type=product&p=123781 Francine Benetti Faria, DDS, MSc, PhD - Adjunct Professor, School of Dentistry, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Belo Horizonte, Brazil Series: Dentistry and Oral Sciences BISAC: MED016060 DOI: https://doi.org/10.52305/TTNV3054 Dental pulp is a loose, vascularized connective tissue located within the walls of dentin. This tissue plays an important role in tooth longevity, whose functions are formative, sensitive, nourishing and defensive. Pulp exposure can be caused by several factors, such as a carious lesion or tooth fracture, leading to inflammation of the pulp tissue, which can result in necrosis if intervention is not performed quickly. Conservative treatments may be indicated when removal of the carious lesion results in pulp exposure in a young primary or permanent tooth, with normal pulp or reversible pulpitis, or after accidental pulp exposure. This book addresses the physiology and pathology of pulp tissue in order to communicate the importance, indications, and techniques of conservative treatments to be performed, especially in young patients, as well as the most suitable biomaterials. **Order the printed version and SAVE 50% on the e-book with Print+eBook **]]> Bone Morphogenetic Proteins: Role of the Super Family in Periodontal Regeneration and Implant Dentistry https://novapublishers.com/shop/bone-morphogenetic-proteins-role-of-the-super-family-in-periodontal-regeneration-and-implant-dentistry/ Mon, 15 Aug 2022 20:19:10 +0000 https://novapublishers.com/?post_type=product&p=141276 Khushboo Durge Azmi - Assistant Professor, Department of Periodontology and Implantology, Sharad Pawar Dental College and Hospital, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University), Maharashtra, India Prasad V. The importance of addressing this clinical subject is two-fold. First, OLP is among the most common oral changes observed in oral medicine clinics. Second, OLP has caused many controversies surrounding its diagnostic criteria, its association with systemic factors, and, above all, its potential for malignant transformation. This latter controversy is an issue of utmost concern for patients and clinicians alike with respect to the management of this disease. This e-book offers a well-informed and critical perspective on all these OLP-related issues. Rather than offering solutions, this publication aims to provide a valuable reflection on these controversies, trying to call the attention of editors, reviewers, and researchers so they are more cautious in accepting some “truths” on OLP that have yet to be fully proven. The text is based on the extensive experience of the authors on the subject, and its content may stir controversy within the scientific community itself. One of the highlights of this publication is its illustrations. Each clinical picture is presented with a robust diagnostic evaluation analyzing the signs of the lesions along with the differential diagnosis and management used in the clinic. Some aspects of the direct immunofluorescent examinations used in OLP are also presented, focusing on their diagnostic value and relevance for the management of the disease. This book may inspire readers to develop an acute critical sense when reading about controversial issues that require more robust judgments based on the available scientific data.]]> Dentistry: Advances in Research and Future Directions https://novapublishers.com/shop/dentistry-advances-in-research-and-future-directions/ Wed, 02 Dec 2020 18:15:52 +0000 https://novapublishers.com/?post_type=product&p=89355 Series: Dentistry and Oral Sciences BISAC: MED016000 DOI: 10.52305/GGHV5909 This book focuses on the future direction of dental research in every discipline. The common knowledge around plants’ healing properties, known as folk medicine, has been transmitted over the centuries for generations throughout human communities. The use of natural products and herbal medicines have been documented in the past. The antibacterial activity of plant extracts has been reported since the late 1800s and some of these traditional medicines are still used, especially in the last decade, with more intensive studies for natural therapies. Active compounds produced during vegetal metabolism are responsible for the antimicrobial and biological properties interacting with specific chemical receptors in the human body and, due to these components, plants extracts are popular as anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial or anti-fungal drugs. However, in the absence of scientific studies, the use of aleatory plant extracts may lead to harmful adverse effects. Previously considered empirical, current data on the antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility of numerous plants have been scientifically confirmed. Phytosciences, as ethnopharmacology or phytotherapy, are emerging multidisciplinary areas with almost unlimited sources and several aspects to be discussed. Recently, there has been a growing trend to seek natural drugs as part of dental treatment. In dentistry, the association of plant extracts with restorative dentistry, endodontics or periodontics materials have been used to reduce inflammation, as antimicrobial enhancer agent, antiseptics, antifungals, antioxidants, analgesics or even as mouth rinse to prevent or reduce dental plaque. Thus, this book will address the use of plant extracts in different fields of dentistry, highlighting its use in cariology, restorative dentistry, endodontics and periodontics, besides other uses of herbal plants in dentistry, as in dental trauma, osteointegration or hemostatic, among others. As will be shown and stated, the vast variety of different plants described in literature with medicinal properties makes it impracticable to discuss all extracts found in scientific literature. Therefore, this book will contribute with some of these extracts and different methodologies to assess, as an introduction to new research and new researchers. Also, different in vivo and in vitro tests used to evaluate biological response, such as biocompatibility and antimicrobial activity in dental treatment will be discussed.
