Dr. Brahmananda Chakraborty is a scientist in High Pressure & Synchrotron Radiation Physics Division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai and Associate Professor in Homi Bhabha National institute. His current research interests include Density Functional Theory (DFT) & Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations of materials for energy materials, bio-Sensors, reactor fuel and structural materials, nanomaterials and behavior of materials under high pressure. Dr. Chakraborty got his Ph.D from IIT, Bombay for his research topic on ‘Irradiation Effects and Hydrogen Storage on Carbon Nanotubes’. He did two years of Post-doctoral research at North Carolina State University, USA. He received the International Association of Advanced Material (IAAM) Scientist Medal in 2017. He has published more than 130 papers in reputed international journals.
He has developed several software packages for material simulations using Molecular Dynamics and Reactor Simulations using Monte Carlo Techniques. He has experience in teaching Density Functional Theory at North Carolina State University, USA and Computational Physics at Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. Dr. Chakraborty is also a regular reviewer in reputed international journals like Journal of Physical Chemistry, CARBON, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics etc. Dr. Chakraborty has contributed a lot to the Department of Atomic Energy’s Nuclear Programme in designing various reactors.
