L.S. Shirokova (Associate Professor, University of Toulouse), PhD in Biology (2007), is a limnologist who is using biogeochemical and microbiological methods to reveal the functioning of lakes in boreal and subarctic zones. She led numerous grant programs on biogeochemistry and environmental sciences and coordinated collaboration in the field of thermokarst lake research. She demonstrated the importance of lake size control on hydrochemistry of the water column for the case of thermokarst lakes in permafrost peatlands and contributed to studies of carbon emissions from lake surfaces in the Russian subarctic. She has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, 2 books and received more than 1700 citations (HI Web of Science is 26).
