Frontiers in Quantum Computing

Quantum Computing is an ever-increasing field of interest both from a conceptual and applied standpoint. In fact, apart from its importance in helping to understand the quantum mechanical behavior of several physical systems (including condensed matter, living systems, elementary particles, astrophysical structures and so on) as well as the physical foundation of information itself at the most elementary level, quantum computing is related to the possibility in designing and realizing an actual quantum computer that could be enormously faster than its classical counterpart. This book covers some of the most interesting, advanced and promising features of quantum computing related to different frontier fields, even unconventional, such as the possibility to realize a quantum superfast “hypercomputing” system using water molecules as physical substrate; the connection between quantum computers and quantum gravity; the development of an “instantaneous quantum computer algorithm”; the realization of a universal quantum computer, as well as of a brain-like quantum supercomputer and many others fascinating topics.

Emerging Human and Techno-Human Business Management Dynamics in a Globalized Environment

An exponential stride in globalization, impressively expedited by advanced technology, has brought about immense changes in the backdrop of world markets. Big data and digital technologies like Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence, assisted this progression by improving efficiency and effectiveness of the way ‘things are done’. All of these factors, in conjunction, have highly influenced the how, where and when of business management today. Leveraging on them has enabled advanced markets to establish themselves further, and new markets to start emerging spectacularly. In this novel, Environment of Emerging Human and Techno-Human Business Management Dynamics, virtual influencers and gamification started becoming the norm of the day. What’s more, businesses are in constant competition to achieve brand loyalty among their customers through bolstering up the branding of their products and services. Advancement in technology though comes at a price, as it leads to an increase in fraudulent activities. In this climate, ethical leadership is required to lead people. Management by mission and evidence-based management can be tools to steer towards better and more transparent decision making in organizations. Amidst this, the role of crisis management is vital to assist in crisis and disaster preparedness.

Chalcones and Their Synthetic Analogs

Chalcones is a collective name of natural and synthetic compounds with a 1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-one moiety. Natural chalcones are biogenetic precursors of the flavonoids in higher plants. They belong to one of the major classes of naturally occurring compounds with widespread distribution in different plant families. Natural and synthetic chalcones display a wide variety of pharmacological effects, including antibacterial, antiprotozoal, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory activities, cytotoxicity towards cancer cell-lines, antitumor, and antitumor-promoting, activities. The chalcone scaffold is one of the natural privileged structures, which possess geometry suitable for decoration with side chains, such that the resulting products bind to different target proteins. The present contribution summarizes an up-to-date summary of their synthetic methods, UV, IR and MS characterization, covalent and noncovalent interactions under cellular conditions, as well as antimalarial and anti-inflammatory actions of natural and synthetic derivatives. Synthesis and spectroscopic properties of not only chalcones but their conformationally restricted analogs are also discussed. Furthermore, synthetic methods and biological activities of C5-curcuminoids, a class of compounds with the related 3-aryl-2-propen-1-one moiety, are summarized. The respective chapters discuss the known structure-to-spectroscopic characteristic and structure-to-biological activity relationships as well.

Desertification: Past, Current and Future Trends

Desertification, which is generally regarded as a special case of land degradation, has been an issue of global concern for decades…It is clearly a highly topical issue and this contribution, edited by Victor Squires and Ali Ariapour, is both timeous and relevant to the debate. The book is comprised of 10 chapters, six of which are either authored or co-authored by the editors. Because of their background and experience, case studies from Iran and China have a stronger emphasis in this volume than is usually the case. However, the first chapter by John Oswald and Sarah Harris provides a very useful and balanced global overview of the desertification debate, which I would recommend as necessary reading for anyone wishing to undertake research in this field…READ MORE

Leukemia. Radiation. Chornobyl (Oncohematological Consequences of the Chornobyl Catastrophe)

“This work carried out by Professor Daniil F. Gluzman and his colleagues from the R.E. Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of Kyiy, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster in 1986 on the incidence of hematologic malignancies in the most affected regions in Ukraine should be praised. A difficult endeavor given the scarcity of local registries for different diseases. The authors for the first time report a trend towards an increase in some forms of leukemia, in particular acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and, possibly, also of myelodysplastic syndromes following the Chornobyl tragedy. While the data on AML were expected, the evidence of an increase in CLL cases is probably a surprise and the effect of long-lived radionuclide contamination on chronic B-cell malignancies deserves further investigation. The book contains also a detailed description on the available literature data. From the survivors of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, to nuclear weapon tests and radiation accidents, and their possible association with malignant diseases. Finally, a chapter is dedicated to biomarkers of radiation-associated leukemogenesis. In essence a comprehensive book on the potential consequences of nuclear leaks that ties together literature data, biomarkers and the first evidence of the consequences of the Chornobyl explosion on the occurrence of hematologic malignancies. A book that in my opinion should be made broadly available to the medical community, but also to the general public. Global awareness and information have become a crucial part of our existence and wellbeing today and more so tomorrow.”

From Pap Smear to HPV Vaccine: The Cervical Cancer Prevention Industry

This book is for those who have eyes to see and the moral constitution to know.”
James Lyons-Weiler, PhD
The Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge

This book summarizes different approaches to cervical cancer prevention currently used or proposed to be used in the United States. The author claims that the purpose of this book is to uncover the flaws of some of these approaches so that the readers as informed healthcare consumers can maintain the personal dignity, respect and autonomy they deserve in order to protect their own health and lives and those of their loved ones. After reading through the chapters of the book, this reviewer finds the author has accomplished his mission with ample factual and science-based evidence. Since these approaches to cervical cancer prevention are also widely used around the world, this book is also recommended for readers in other English-speaking countries.”

“I recommend his book wholeheartedly. This book should be studied by all university medical professors and students across the world as a sort of the most authoritative “Bible” in the HPV vaccine-associated adverse reaction field because its author, backed by his deep knowledge of molecular biology and vital functions of codons and consequences of its translation and transcription, elucidates reasons and causes of ultra-wide-ranging types of adverse reactions that also show up at recipients of HPV vaccines. The adverse reactions of HPV vaccines sometimes manifest themselves as extremely serious and painful side-effects affecting recipient girls’ and young women’s central nerve system to the point of devastating and crippling such recipient girls. Some of such girls ended up committing suicide in my country and in other countries too amidst their intense sufferings resulting from HPV vaccine injections and their consequences at their brains and other key portions of the central nerve system.”

“This book should be required reading for every person on the planet. The eminent Dr. Sin Hang Lee takes his readers on a well-documented look inside the creation of a cervical cancer prevention industry. How did physicians mutate from providing patients with a proven safe and effective means of controlling cervical cancer to using methods based on promises from pharmaceutical manufacturers? Are these promises scientifically proven? How did the general public come to trust promises from the medical industrial complex as scientifically proven facts? Who are the real beneficiaries of these transitions? Learning the answers to these questions could save you or someone you love from becoming the next victim of prescriptions for profit.”

Globalization Unchained: Seven Major Challenges Facing Education

Globalization Unchained: Seven Major Challenges Facing Education is the result of more than 40 years of experience as a pedagogue and a teacher; the result of his visits abroad, of his interactions with other teachers and researchers. This is not just another book on globalization and education. This is the knowledge and the experience of learning by sharing at its best. Ilghiz M. Sinagatullin, whom I had the chance and pleasure to meet in person in Russia and then to work with on some research activities, takes us in a journey of reflection, not only about his thoughts but also about how we see ourselves in this world both as citizens and teachers. I dare the reader to accept his invitation and ’embark on a deeper probe’. I wish you all a good reading.”

Physiotherapeutic Management of Patellofemoral Pain

“The title of this book is physiotherapeutic management of patellofemoral pain, yet the detailed chapters provide information for a much wider range of health care clinicians such as physicians, students, athletic trainers, podiatrists, academics and physiotherapists who study patellofemoral pain and who are likely to examine and treat those with this condition. This book has been written mainly by a team of academic and clinical based physiotherapists. The eleven chapters provide a comprehensive guide and explanation of the many treatment modalities and programs available for patellofemoral pain.”
Professor Michael Callaghan

United Kingdom

“I highly recommend a book, which is titled “Physiotheurapeutic Management of Patellofemoral Pain”. The clinicians refer to Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome as the “the black hole of orthopedics” because treatment approaches that produce successful outcomes for those afflicted continues to elude them. I think that the editors have completed a significant deficiency with this book, which includes the treatment of patellofemoral pain syndrome. In the present book, not only basic issues such as anatomy, biomechanics, pathophysiology, and assessment but also detailed physiotherapy approaches are discussed in every respect. I sincerely congratulate precious editors and authors of the book who support the book for this careful and wonderful study, which I believe that academics, students, and clinicians will find answers to every question they are looking for.”

Estimation Methods in the Romanian National Forest Inventory

“The increased recognition of the functions and ecosystem services provided by forests underlines the need for reliable and up-to-date information on forests. Producing quantitative, diversified, and trustable information on forest states and dynamics is the aim of the National Forest Inventories. Their methods are very specific, complex, and deserve a complete presentation as endeavoured in this book for the Romanian Forest Inventory.
This inventory, one of the last implemented in Europe, had to cope with the challenging context of the Carpathian forests. The development of the sampling design and estimation methods is built on the experience accumulated by older inventories and represents a fruitful collaboration coordinated by the European National Forest Inventory Network (ENFIN).
The detailed information on the sampling and the estimation methods provided by this book offers a deep insight on the statistical background of forest inventories and their implementation. It constitutes a solid basis for understanding the principles of forest survey. This book is addressed to a large audience: from inventory specialists to researchers who desire to gain insights on the methods used in forest surveys.”
