Bubble Nucleation and Dynamics

“This monograph concerns small bubbles in nonequilibrium situations. Describing nucleation phenomena requires that the continuum assumption be supplemented with models of molecular activity and kinetic theory. Much of this book reviews the authors original research. It is an updated version of a work originally published in Korean. The first five chapters deal with the origin and early growth of bubbles; vapor bubble formation in liquids, superheat heat limit of liquids, gaseous bubble formation in solutions, formation of bubbles in cavities, and condensation and vaporization on flat surfaces. The following four chapters concern bubble dynamics. Events are described using a set of analytical solutions for the Navier-Stokes equations with spherical symmetry. Sonoluminescence phenomena is discussed from a hydrodynamics viewpoint. One chapter is devoted to shock wave propagation in bubbly mixtures. Another chapter deals with the gravitational collapse of Newtonian stars and the core collapse of supernovas. This analysis also is relevant to a fire-ball generated by TNT explosion underwater. An engineer or scientist working with bubbles phenomena needs to be acquainted with the results in this monograph.” – Ronald L. Panton, Emeritus J. H. Herring Centennial Professor, Walker Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Texas, Austin, Texas; Author of “Incompressible Flow,” a well-known graduate test in Fluid Mechanics

“This book is a remarkable culmination of the author’s lifelong love and study of the bubble. It offers the extensive account of relevant materials in a manner so thorough but still readable that it will undoubtedly mark the fundamental reference for everyone in its field to keep.” – Wonho Jhe, Professor at Seoul National University, Associate editor of Applied Nanoscience

Biodiversity of the Bulgarian-Romanian Section of the Lower Danube

“The Danube River flows across much of the European continent from its central part to its southeastern border. In addition to its high transport, commercial and economic importance, the River is also a key factor in biodiversity, especially in its lower course. Therefore, it is a good idea to summarize in one book the available information together with original unpublished data on the species diversity, chorology and ecology of key groups of animals and overview of significant vegetation areas in the Bulgarian section of the Danube,” READ MORE… – Associate Professor Dr. Alexi Popov, Former Director (retired), National Museum of Natural History, Sofia, Bulgaria

The Elusive Search for Job Security: A Historical Inquiry into Dismissals in the US Workplace

“In this elegantly argued book, Matthias Beck has produced a masterful account of how and why successive attempts at strengthening job security for American employees at their place of work have come virtually to nothing. Synthesising brilliantly a mass of historical detail, he shows how powerful institutional and organizational forces have been mobilised to prevent American employees enjoying a level of employment protection that is taken-for-granted in most parts of Europe. As a result, at-will-employment is the Sword of Damocles that continues to hang most American workplaces. Above all, what emerges from this fine book is the perverse irony of the world’s richest country affording its citizens the least job security of any economically advanced nation.” – Professor Paul Teague, Martin Naughton Chair of Management at Queen’s University, Belfast

“In this impressively researched and scholarly book Prof Beck investigates the origins and consequences of limited legal protection offered to American workers … and explores the particular historical reasons for this apparent American exceptionalism. Thoroughly footnoted throughout, the narrative concentrates on the legal aspects of dismissal and the role of the judiciary promoting ‘at will’ firing and plant level bargaining. A detailed array of evidence is fielded to show how attempts to restrict managerial rights were doomed to failure … The book will be of interest to business, legal and economic historians, and policy makers. Above all, it will appeal to those readers who are seeking new insights into the linkages between disorganised labour and the evident competitive advantage of American capitalism before the financial crisis of 2007.” – Professor Steven Toms, Chair in Accounting at Leeds University Business School, UK and Editor of Business History.
